Johann Sebastian Bach
Sanctus BWV 239
Sanctus BWV 239
This is a simple setting of the Sanctus my group sang as part of a reconstruction of a Christmas Day service under Bach's direction in Leipzig. The music is so uncharacteristic of Bach that the general consensus is that it is not really by him. Nevertheless, Christmas Day was one of the few days in the Lutheran Church calendar when the Sanctus was sung in Latin, and this version is associated with one of the churches where Bach worked; it is possible that it may have been sung under his direction.
