The Peckham Chamber Orchestra played a collaborative piece I contributed to last month. My music was only 32 bars lasting about two minutes, but I have extracted it, and you can hear it by clicking on the picture opposite - an engraving of Peckham in 1863.
Peckham was mentioned in the Doomsday Book (1087) where it is called 'Pecheha'. Peckham was a village with a farming community. Much of the land was used for growing crops and fruit and by the 18th century, Peckham was famous for its melons, figs and grapes.
When I went to the concert, I discovered that Peckham is not as rural as it used to be.
