I have just heard that a short piano piece is being played at the Vox Novus Festival, celebrating 15 years of "presenting the music of tomorrow." The programme is still not finalised, but the performance is 24 October, Symphony Space, Leonard Nimoy Thalia, 2537 Broadway, New York.

My piece is called Leise flehen die Lieder (The songs beckon softly), and the programme note I wrote is below.

Although it may not sound like it, Leise flehen die Lieder (The songs beckon softly) is derived from Schubert's songs. An accompanying figure from one, characteristic motifs from several places, harmonies from others. These are worked up into a repeating form like those Schubert used.

Percussion in Portland

I wrote on Facebook about the performances of Six Haiku after Bashô that the Portland Percussion Group played in May and July. I didn't write a post that I can refer back to.
The group gave the piece second prize in their "Nothing with Wheels" call for scores in 2015, and have played it a couple of times and talked about recording it. I recently found a review of the concert Drums along the Pacific. Henry (no relation) gets the lime-light, but he led a very interesting life. I get a small mention at the very end, but it is nice to be noticed.
I have added a link to the score of Six Haiku (click on the frog). Sorry that it is not the clearest or most beautiful score I have ever produced.
